#SustainableXmas - Get Crafty with Cards

This December we're going to be kicking off the Christmas period with some sustainable hints and tips you can easily follow at home. Give the gift of thoughtfulness whilst holding back on the unnecessary waste. We promise, it'll be worth it.
Cut back on the cards this year. Send them to those special people who really deserve something handmade, with a lot of love and thought poured into it. Our first post is a fun, nostalgic activity where you can get your hands dirty whilst having lots of fun (and even get the kids involved to make it a real family affair).

What you’ll need:
- A potato
- Cookie cutter
- Knife
- Recycled card
- Pen
- Paint & brush

Method:
1) Grab a potato – you’ll want this to be large enough to fit your cookie cutter stencil on and thick enough to make a noticeable cut out.
2) Cut this in half. Press the cookie cutter in the middle, at least 1cm deep to leave a good indent.
3) Using your knife, carefully cut around the potato using the cookie cutter as your guide.
4) Peel away the excess potato around the outside of the cookie cutter and pull the cookie cutter out. Voila! You have your stamp template. Dab this on a bit of kitchen roll.
5) Cover your stamp in a paint colour of your choice and stamp this however you like onto one side of your folded piece of recycled card. You can find this in lots of stationery shops and online!
6) The rest is up to you. Go crazy or minimal, write a sentimental message or a funny Christmas pun. Whoever receives your cards will feel loved and you will feel pride in creating such an eco-friendly card.

TIP: If you’re going to use glitter to jazz up your cards, try to source a biodegradable glitter instead. Read more about the effects of glitter here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/42038411/the-eco-friendly-guide-to-glitter
