Keeping Your Health & Wellbeing in Check

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to take care of your health and wellbeing. Not only does this virus affect our physical health, but there are sure to be worries surrounding finances, health anxiety and even diminished mental health due to self-isolation (as great as it sounds at first, being stuck at home for 24 hours a day isn’t all it’s cracked up to be). However, these are all things we can take control of to reduce our worries and ultimately stay healthy inside and out.

It’s really common to feel a sense of overwhelm or anxiety at the current situation. You are not alone. We are all in this together and will hopefully be protected by the government, who are announcing new updates by the day. It’s easy to say ‘do not panic’ but if we all stick together to try and stay calm and act responsibly, we should be able to get through this (with plenty of loo roll to go around).

Firstly, eat well. Despite the supermarkets being stretched to capacity and many shelves quickly emptying, there still seems to be stocks of fresh food available which is ideally what we want to be filling ourselves with. Fruit, vegetables, fish. It’s this fresh and wholesome food that will keep your insides healthy, packing you with the antioxidants and vitamins needed to boost your immune system. Eden’s Essentials parcels are a great solution to steering clear of the supermarkets – you can now order them online here.

Exercise is a fantastic way to relieve stress, whether it’s going for a run (at a distance from others, of course) or making up your own 15-minute home workout. It’s proven to release chemicals in the brain that can act as an anti-anxiety remedy and is a well-known way to use up that extra adrenaline you build up from stress. Similarly, meditation can really help you to relax. Put on a YouTube video and spend 10 minutes doing some breathing exercises – we guarantee you will come out the other side calmer and lighter.

Creating a calm space at home is really important, especially for those who are working remotely and need to concentrate. We’re going to be spending a lot of time there over the coming weeks, and if you’re working you want to be able to focus. Make sure you stick to some sort of routine, get showered and dressed before setting up a comfy spot to work, free from distractions (does not apply if you have pets or children unfortunately...)

Check in with friends and family – it can be easy to feel isolated and lonely during these times but the magic of a phone call or a message can go a long way. Stay connected! Technology is a wonderful thing…

Lastly, don’t fret about financial burdens. The government has been bringing out some fantastic announcements to help businesses and employees which will really help us through. If you are at all worried, just give your bank a call and talk through the options – it will be sure to put your mind at ease.

We are all in the same boat and the way communities have pulled together is nothing short of amazing. Let’s all do what we can to get through this with a positive mind, use the time to learn something new and connect with loved ones (albeit through a screen).

We hope you’re all keeping safe and well – we’re continuing to support the NHS through this time and are available to provide your breakfasts, lunches and dinners to those working hard despite what is going on. We look forward to being able to serve you up some delicious food.

The Eden Team x
