Cooking with Rapeseed Oil: The Benefits of Choosing R-Oil
At Eden we are solely committed to sustainability and reducing our environmental impact as a caterer. One of the ways we do this is by working with a company called R-Oil – a small family business that supplies us with extra virgin cold pressed rapeseed oil, that we use to cook our food. The great thing about working with R-Oil is how they minimize any waste oil that we create at Eden Caterers.
R-Oil collects our unused oil and sends most of it to a company which produces biofuel. This means that instead of being thrown away or disposed of in a harmful way, the oil is repurposed into a useful resource that can be used to power vehicles and equipment. The remaining oil is sent to a local anaerobic digestion plant, to help prevent foaming in the anaerobic digestion tank. This helps to ensure that the anaerobic digestion process runs smoothly and efficiently.
However, that’s not all - R-Oil then collects any digestate formed from the anaerobic digestion process and uses it as a fertilizer on the rapeseed crops. This cycle ultimately closes the gap of waste, as the final R-Oil product is grown with the help of wasted R-Oil produced by us at Eden. This process not only reduces waste and promotes sustainability but also supports local farming and agriculture.
Working with R-Oil is a great way for Eden Caterers to be more environmentally conscious and sustainable. By repurposing waste oil and using it to grow crops, we can reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more circular economy. We feel it’s important for businesses to take responsibility for their impact on the environment and working with companies such as R-Oil is a great step towards a more sustainable future.
